The interim government of Portugal intends to expel about 18,000 foreigners living in the country without legal documents, during the pre -general elections, a minister announced on Saturday, according to the Associated Press.
The Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, said that the center-right government will issue about 18,000 notifications to the people illegally in the country, asking them to leave the territory, reports News.ro citing the AP.
The minister said that the authorities will start next week by requesting about 4,500 foreigners to leave the country voluntarily within 20 days.
Portugal will organize general anticipated elections on May 18. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro convened the anticipated elections in March, after his minority government, led by the Conservative Democratic Democrat Party, lost the vote of trust in Parliament and resigned.
Portugal was also included by the populist wave that increased in Europe, the far right party Chega reaching the third place in last year's elections.
