After a few days with positive temperatures, meteorologists announce that the frost will return on the night of Saturday to Sunday in Moldova, Dobrogea and eastern Transylvania where the minimum temperatures will generally fall between -14 and -10 degrees, and throughout Sunday the frost will persist in most of Moldova.

According to the ANM forecast, until Wednesday (February 4) the weather will remain particularly cold, frosty especially at night and in the morning, especially in the extra-Carpathian regions.

“Nights and mornings will be very cold”

In a statement for Digi24, the director of ANM, Elena Mateescu, emphasized that the beginning of February will bring a sudden drop in the temperature, which will drop to -15 degrees Celsius.

“We are talking about cold weather during the days, because the highs will also be significantly lower compared to what we have recorded these days. We are talking about highs that, especially in Moldova, will drop to minus 7-10°C in the north of Moldova, with slightly positive values ​​in the western part of the country. But the lows will gradually become negative”, explained Elena Mateescu in an intervention on Digi24.

“They will be characterized by frosty weather, as the nights and mornings will be very cold, around minus 10-1°C, and it is possible that in depressions we will even record values ​​as low as minus 15°C, at least until around February 4,” she continued.

Where will it snow?

ANM announces that the month of February will be characterized by snow and precipitation, especially in the north, center and east of the territory.

“We will certainly talk about snow, but also mixed precipitation. As the temperature regime will drop, they will gradually turn into precipitation in the form of snow,” Mateescu also said.

Weather alerts issued for the end of the week

Between January 29, 8:00 p.m. and February 1, 6:00 p.m., a weather warning is in effect for quantitatively moderate rains, hail and ice, wind intensifications, cooling of the weather, frost.

“During the mentioned interval, there will be precipitation in most of the country. In the southeastern regions, there will be quantitatively moderate rains and 10…20 l/m2 will accumulate and isolated 25 l/m2. In the rest of the country, the precipitation will be quantitatively weak, predominantly snow in the mountains and in Moldova and mixed in the other regions. In some places, snow and ice will form”, according to ANM.

From 10 p.m. until January 31, at 8 p.m., a yellow code will come into force in 8 counties in southern Moldova, the eastern half of Muntenia and Dobrogea. Here, according to ANM, the wind will intensify with gust speeds generally of 50…65 km/h.
