A new health resort in Poland – Lidzbark Warmiński

From the new year, the area including the spa estate in Lidzbark Warmiński and the nearby villages of Medina and Łabno will become a spa resort. The regulation on this matter was announced on Wednesday in the Journal of Laws.

The regulation of the Council of Ministers on granting this area the status of a health resort will come into force January 1, 2026 According to the document published on Wednesday, it is being named “Lidzbark Warmiński Health Resort“In Warmia and Mazury, the only town with the status of a health resort so far was Gołdap.

The local government hopes that obtaining the status of a health resort will contribute to… creating new jobs and economic development of the city. Lidzbark Warmiński has been striving for this for almost 10 years, including: obtaining EU funds for spa investments. Graduation towers, a health pavilion and promenades were built, and a private investor was found to build a natural and medicinal facility, i.e. a spa hospital. The city has Termy Warmińskie, a complex of swimming pools using chloride-sodium water that can be used for balneological purposes.

Since 2016, this area has had the status of a spa protection area. At the end of last year, Mayor Jacek Wiśniowski submitted an application to the Minister of Health to change the status to a health resort. He also requested the addition of two new therapeutic directions, i.e. diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, to which the minister agreed. The minister's earlier decision from 2014 confirmed the possibility of providing spa treatment for cardiac diseases and hypertension, orthopedic and traumatic diseases, nervous system diseases and rheumatological diseases.

According to the regulations, health resort activities may be conducted in the area that has obtained the status of a health resort. This area should, among others: have deposits of natural medicinal raw materials with confirmed medicinal properties, have a climate with medicinal properties. There should be spa treatment facilities and spa treatment facilities prepared to provide spa treatment. This area should also meet the requirements specified in environmental protection regulations.
