The Ministry of the Interior of Kuwait banned the digging of cryptocurrencies in the territory of the country due to the fact that this energy -consuming process may threaten the stability of power supply. A large -scale operation is underway, which is aimed at houses used to extract cryptocurrencies.

Digging cryptocurrencies – an IT process requiring advanced equipment and large energy outlays – “is the unlawful use of electricity (…) and can cause interruptions in power supply in residential, commercial and service areas, and consequently pose a direct threat to public security” – the resort said in a special message.
The activities of the Kuwait of the Ministry of the Interior covered primarily the south of the country, where the Ministry of Energy had previously identified about 100 houses in which cryptocurrency was dug. In some buildings, power consumption was to be up to 20 times higher than the average. According to the data of this ministry, after the first operation of the services, energy consumption in the southern part of Kuwait fell by 55 percent.
In this country located on the bay of the Persian bay, cryptocurrency trading is prohibited, but so far there were no restrictions on their extraction. The authorities have been struggling with an energy crisis in recent years, caused by, among others expansion of cities due to demographic explosion, an increase in temperatures and neglect in the national energy system.
Kuwait authorities systematically repeat appeals to the country's residents to avoid waste of energy, so that it does not run out to cool in the summer. (PAP)
