Four days before the first round of the presidential elections and after three television debates, the passion is at high levels between the supporters of the three candidates who are fighting for a place in the second round: Crin Antonescu, Nicușor Dan and Elena Lasconi. Crin Antonescu accused Nicușor Dan of raining two years to execute a court decision by which he was obliged to grant a building permit for an oncological hospital of the private company Sanador. The mayor acknowledged that he signed the authorization exactly yesterday, April 30, that is, after the subject became discussed in the election campaign.

The accusation is a tough one and could cause at least a lifting from any Romanian who knows that treating cancer patients is a big problem.

But is it worth the mayor of the Capital to be accused of putting the oncological treatment in Romania, as it is currently rolling on social networks? Or the subject is, in fact, another: an attempt to block a building that is to be built in a very crowded area of ​​Bucharest.

In 2024, before the local elections, Nicușor Dan gave a hotnews interview in which he also spoke about the building he wants to build Sanador. I met with the mayor of the Capital, right in front of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, where he had a term in the process with the private medical company. This was the format of the series of interviews made by Hotnews in the local elections: to take the candidates by car and take them through the city through different places.

I asked him then what he was looking for at the Court of Appeal and he answered exactly that:

“This is a trial with the Sanador Hospital at the intersection of Calea Victoriei with Sevastopol. There is already a building that greatly agrees the historical area and they want to expand even more. We have refused to issue their construction authorization, have sued us and lost in the first phase and now we are in the execution phase.”

The first factual observation is that the mayor had a problem with lifting a new building in a very crowded area. Not with cancer patients. Those who know the area of ​​Sevastopol street, at Victoriei Square, understand what was referred to.

The second factual observation: if last year the mayor of the capital had a term for this process, it means that Crin Antonescu's statement that “that clinic had two years court” is not accurate. The dispute had not yet ended.

The third observation is not favorable to Nicușor Dan: even “a few months” delay, as the mayor acknowledged in the debate from Antena 3, still represents quite a long time. There is a court decision that the mayor had to apply and yet he did not do until the election campaign for the presidential, when he is attacked by the candidates on this subject. Why? Here we need additional clarification from the mayor.
