“Mr. Ponta passed, in the speech and in attitude, from Che Guevara to Donald Trump. He copied, betrayed; when he did not copy, betrayed; when he did not betray, copy.”said Crin Antonescu, criticizing the sudden changes of direction and contradictory positions of Victor Ponta, his current counter -candidate in the May Presidential race.

The independent candidate also mentioned the 2009 presidential campaign, when Victor Ponta, although he was a spokesman for the PSD candidate, Mircea Geoană, voted with someone else. “If he wishes, I invite him to tell what he felt then. Can be a useful confession for his former party colleagues”, Said Crin Antonescu.

Crin Antonescu also claimed that Ponta used the Party's resources for personal purposes: “He is the only party president in Romania who took his salary from the party's money – 5,000 euros a month. So it is easy to never be unemployed.”

In reply, Victor Ponta claimed that he always worked and did not unemployed “no day”: “I did a lot of good things, I made a lot of mistakes. I have always worked, I have not been unemployed, no ten, no ten years and I will always work for my loved ones, I have to take care of them, not to be a drill behind them”.

“” People know what I did. First of all, as prime minister I know what I did in a PSD – PNL coalition – the Conservative Party, namely I took a country in crisis, a country with pensions and salaries cut, with 24% VAT and we managed to take care of people. Now, in 2025, Romania goes in a totally wrong direction, a misdiregiation first for the citizens of the country, but also from the outside, which is why their vote was for change on November 24th ”said Victor Ponta.

The exchange of replies between the two candidates came in the TVR -organized debate, in Cotroceni, under the slogan “A president for Romania”, on Tuesday, April 29. At the debate all the candidates enrolled in the electoral race were invited.

The debate is transmitted live by the truth.
