A Romanian pulled the door handle and locked the Germans in the locker room, right before the luge final. In vain, the Germans still took the gold

The Germans are doing well at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, collecting 4 gold medals, including three in luge and one in ski jumping. One of the trophies, however, was not to come into the possession of the Germans, after a Romanian blocked them in the dressing room a few minutes before the time when they were supposed to appear at the start.

Germany won the mixed luge relay at the 2026 Olympics, not before experiencing moments of panic as the Germans prepared to take to the track. Tobias Wendl revealed that a Romanian sledder, whose name he did not give, ripped off the door handle of the boys' locker room and those inside were trapped for several minutes.
The Germans, nervous during the incident
The competition's big favorites arrived nervous at the start of the race and revealed why after a perfect descent that earned them the gold medal. They were close to missing the race due to an unprecedented incident. Tobias Wendl, the most successful athlete in the history of Germany at the Winter Olympics (7 titles together with his doubles teammate, Tobias Arlt) told that a Romanian pulled – let's hope by mistake – the door handle from the locker room and the Germans were locked inside. “As a curiosity: just before the start, a Romanian entered the locker room and pulled the door handle, and we remained locked inside. We had a short nervous breakdown”Wendl testified.
And the singles luge champion, Max Langenhan, told what happened: “I was happy when someone opened the door for us. I was even a little nervous because you can't open a door without a handle and the race had to start.”
