US President Donald Trump has clearly stated that he wants a permanent armistice to end the Ukraine war, rather than a temporary break in the battles between Moscow and Kiev, insisted on Monday the spokesman of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, indicating that Trump did not consider the three -day Armist. Sky News, Reuters and AFP.

Karoline Leavitt made this statement shortly after President Putin announced that he would order all Moscow forces to cease battles on May 8-11, which coincides with events in Russia who celebrate 80 years from the Allied victory against Nazi Germany in World War II.

“I understand that Vladimir Putin proposed a temporary armistice this morning,” she said.

“The president (Trump, no) clearly said he wants a permanent armistice first to stop the killings and bloodshed,” the white house spokesman said.

Leavitt said that Trump “remains optimistic that he can reach an agreement”, but added that the US president is “more and more frustrated by the leaders of both countries”, who “must sit at the negotiation table to find a solution” to end the war.

Despite this fact, Trump said on Sunday night that he has the impression that Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski behaves “calmer” after the meeting the two had, at Saint Peter's Basilica, at the weekend.

Leavitt added that the meeting between the two leaders has shown that Trump “wants to be a pacifier president, as he was in his first term”, adding that he “intends to do this again.”

According to a statement of the Kremlin issued on Monday, the cessation of fire will enter into force at midnight on Wednesday, May 7, May 8, 0.00pm) and will take 72 hours, until midnight (May 10, 24.00).

“During this period, all military actions will cease,” the Russian presidency said.

The Kremlin warned, however, that if the Ukrainian part does not respect the armistice, the Russian forces will respond “properly and efficiently”.

Subsequently, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sîbiga, said that Ukraine is ready to support a “sustainable and full” fire cease, showing that if Russia really wants peace, it should immediately cease its attacks.
