“The first option would be FCSB” + “We are waiting for him with us”

Special event for FCSB! The players and staff of the red-blues were awarded on Tuesday afternoon, during a gala organized at the Marriott Hotel, in the Capital, where they received exclusive watches, worth 5,200 euros. Among those present was the former coach of the red-blues, Elias Charalambous, who offered statements about the time spent at the club and a possible return to Romania, a topic also commented on by Florin Tanasewho said the team was waiting for him.

At the JW Marriott hotel, in Bucharest, Charalambous, the former coach of the champion, was present with the players and staff at the event dedicated to the red-blue team, talking about the connection built with the club from the Capital and about the festive moment when he received the gift.

Players and staff members were rewarded with Swiss Tudor watches, specially customized for each individual. The decision was announced even before the event by Mihai Stoica, the president of the Board of Directors, who revealed that each watch was individually engraved.

Even though FCSB is progressing in the Superliga play-out, the sponsors have taken into account the performances of the previous seasons, when the team won two consecutive titles in the championship, but also two qualifications in the single group of the Europa League. Florin Tănase was late to the event and arrived last at the gala.

“First of all I want to thank the Tudor family and the owner. He is Cypriot and from the first moment I came he welcomed me in the best way. He promised that if we won titles, and we did, he would give a gift to the FCSB family. Today is a good time to celebrate and receive the watches. A very nice watch, to be honest, and I hope it brings the team good luck in the future.”

Charalambous also recalled the time he spent with the team, but also the connection with Romania and the people in the club.

“I saw my boys and the staff with whom I worked for three beautiful years, with pleasant memories. I am happy to meet you, the journalists, with whom I shared three years here. I am happy. I came with my wife and we feel Romania as our country.”

The technician also explained the recent visit to Bournemouth's base, underlining his constant desire to learn.

“I tried to educate myself and have an advantage, to learn from the best. If those people have reached that level, it means they have something better than us. We have to learn every day. This is not the time to talk about football, I want to enjoy the event.

About life as a coach, the Cypriot spoke openly about the unpredictable pace of the job. “That's the life of a coach. You don't know when you have a job, when you're on vacation. But even on vacation, I always open my laptop. Football is my life.

FCSB is FCSB, it doesn't matter if it's Elias Charalambous or another coach. This team has value, the jersey is huge. It doesn't matter who leaves or who comes.”

The technician also left a door open for a possible return to Romania: “If I were to return to Romania, the first option would be FCSB. It's not about money, it's about respect and love for the fans, players and management.

The most important thing is self-criticism and to improve myself. If you work every day, you can make mistakes, but the important thing is that you tried to be better. In the championship, any team in the play-offs can win the title. For FCSB there is a big chance in the European cups.”

Florin Tănase doesn't think twice: “The first option is Steaua”

And Florin Tănase spoke about the festive moment, but also about the difficult season the team went through.

“A special gift. We thank Tudor for this special gift, we have fond memories with this watch. It is a gift given following the performances made in Europe. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts and hope to repeat the performances.”

The red-blue midfielder also had a nostalgic moment about the season: “It was nice to be reunited with Pintilii and Charalambous, we had a very good collaboration that made a lot of people happy. If time was to stop, I would turn it back to the beginning of the season to qualify for the play-offs, but time cannot be turned back. We are looking forward, we are confident and we have to perform at the highest level to make the fans happy.”

Florin Tănase also commented on the situation of the former coach, wanted by Gigi Becali back at FCSB.

I don't know what they discussed, we are waiting for him to decide that. Every person makes decisions in life, we don't want to force him, he has to think carefully. I think he felt great in Romania and he feels great when he returns, and that will count. We are waiting for him with us.”

On possible negotiations and his future at the club, the champions' second captain said: “Steaua (no. FCSB) has priority, but we will see at the time of the discussions, after the championship is over.”
