Germany's President Frank-Walter Steinmeier recommended that there are no exaggerated expectations in terms of concrete results in the divergent international policy issues after the meetings of various leaders in the world, in Rome, in the funeral margin of Pope Francis, reports EFE.

Asked by reporters about the meetings of the political leaders in the margin of Saturday's funerals, the German president said: “I think we should not forget that it is, first of all, a funeral and that we should not have too many expectations from the so-called funeral diplomacy.”

“Naturally, those who know each other meet here and there is the opportunity for short discussions,” continued Frank-Walter Steinmeier. “But I really want to advise you not to expect any major foreign policy to be carried out here in the margin of this funeral service,” he said.

Multiple meetings for the President of Ukraine in Rome

In the context of the funerals there was a new meeting between the President of the US and Ukraine, Donald Trump and Volodimir Zelenski, who discussed in Saint Peter's Basilica. The two had been the protagonists of a public dispute in February, in the Oval Office of the White House.

“We managed to discuss a lot. We hope in a result of all the things he was talking about,” Volodimir Zelenski said on Telegram.

The leader of Ukraine claims that he and his American counterpart have spoken, among other things, about “the protection of our people's life, a complete and unconditional fire, a reliable and sustainable peace that will prevent the recurrence of the war.”

“It was a very symbolic meeting that has the potential to become historical, if we get common results. Thank you, Mr. President Donald Trump!”, Said Volodimir Zelenski.

After meeting with the Ukrainian president, the US leader addressed a message to the Russian counterpart, threatening him with the possibility of sanctions.

“There is no reason for Putin to shoot with rockets in civilian areas, cities and localities, in the last days. It makes me think that he may not want to stop the war, only leads me, and that he must be treated differently, through” secondary sanctions “or” banking “? Many people die!”, Donald Trump wrote.

Also in the margin of the funerals, the President of Ukraine also discussed with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, with the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the president of the European Commission.

“The conclusion of the Ukraine war. This is an objective we share with President Trump (USA, no),” wrote Emmanuel Macron, on Saturday, in a post on platform X.

“Ukraine is prepared for an unconditional cessation of fire. President Zelenski told me this again today. He would like to collaborate with Americans and Europeans to implement it,” concluded the French president.
