The relegation of the level of diplomats is in contrast to intensifying the pressure from the American President Donald Trump and his team so that Kiev and Moscow will agree on a cessation of fire as soon as possible.
A US peace proposal, to be discussed in London, would foresee that the United States recognizes the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia – a proposal rejected by Volodimir Zelenski on Tuesday.
The plan, reported by the American press at the weekend, also involves freezing the first lines of the front as part of a peace agreement.
The Financial Times reported that Vladimir Putin offered to stop the invasion on the current front, which would leave about 20% of Ukraine in the hands of Russia. It is not clear whether Kiev will accept such conditions.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had to come to London for a meeting with his British counterpart, but also with the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, France and Germany – but on Tuesday the announcement will not go for the meeting for charged agenda.
After this announcement, Paris and Berlin gave up their ministers travel plans.
Instead, Keith Kellogg, the US messenger for Ukraine, will take part in London discussions with high French and German officials.
