Russia as a mediator in nuclear negotiations from the USA

“We hope and we hope that Russia will continue to play a supporting role (Iran) in every agreement” – said Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Aragczi on Friday, who started his visit to Moscow the day before.
At a joint press conference, the Russian head of diplomacy Sergei Lavrov pointed out that Moscow is ready to get involved in the role of a mediator if such actions are desirable by Tehran and accepted by Washington.
“We are ready to help, mediate and play every role, which from the point of view of Iran will be useful and which will be acceptable to the United States,” said Ławrow.
He also revealed that Aragczi met with President Vladimir Putin on Thursday and this conversation took place in an atmosphere of “unprecedented political dialogue” between the two countries. Lavrov added that Putin was very happy with the conversations.

Negotiations between the USA and Iran
Abbas Aragczi informed the Russian minister about the course of the first stage of negotiations, which took place in Oman last week. On this occasion, he also emphasized the current importance of Moscow in achieving the nuclear agreement of 2015, which resulted in the abolition of some sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran's nuclear activities. This agreement, however, collapsed after the USA unilateral withdrawal in 2018.
“Although we have serious doubts about the intentions and motives of the American side, we will take part in tomorrow's negotiations” – announced the Iranian minister. “We are completely prepared to work for a peaceful solution on the Tehran nuclear program.”
Western countries are afraid that Tehran may strive to conquer atomic weapons. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (Maea), Rafael Grossi, warned on Thursday that time to reach a new nuclear agreement with Iran ends. In an interview with the French “Le Monde” he said that Iran “is not far away” from having a nuclear bomb, and the amount of fissile material collected allows the production of “several such bombs”.

Rubio wants to maintain sanctions against Iran
On Friday, the American Secretary of State Marco Rubio, staying in Paris, expressed the hope that the next conversations with Iran would be successful.
“We would all like a peaceful and lasting solution,” he said. He also met with representatives of Great Britain, France and Germany, calling for sanctions against Iran.
“Based on yesterday's public comments, it can be expected that we will soon receive a report from Maea saying not only that Iran does not comply with the findings, but also that it is dangerously close to (creating) weapons, closer than ever,” – he warned.
