The Ministry of Labor of Russia reduced the list of professions for simplified receipt of a residence permit from 203 to 29

The Ministry of Labor of Russia approved a list of 29 professions that will help foreigners receive a residence permit in the country in a simplified manner. The corresponding order appeared on the official portal of legal information.

The list included such specialties as a big data analyst, engineers of various specializations, a designer and others. There are also working professions. Among them is the operator for the application of enlightening and protective coatings, a pressman, welders and locksmiths engaged in the sectors of shipbuilding, mechanical engineering and aircraft industry.

We will remind, earlier there were 203 professions on the list, which gave the right to simplified obtaining citizenship.

“In order to use the right to receive a residence permit in a simplified manner in 2025, foreign specialists with a suitable profession need to comply with a number of criteria, including having work experience by profession from the list of at least one year continuously on the date of submission of the application and comply with all the requirements of Russian legislation,” the Ministry of Labor explained.

The department recalled that from 2017 to 2023, demanded foreign specialists could get the right to citizenship in a simplified manner. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, less than 1 % of the total number of citizenship used this right for six years for six years.

In April 2023, this rule of law was canceled. In December 2024, at the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, amendments were adopted to the law “On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in Russia”. The innovations endowed foreigners and stateless persons with a demanded profession with the right to obtain a residence permit in a simplified manner.
