The Club Oțelul Galați explained why he did not apply to obtain the UEFA license and announced that this will become a priority for season 2026/27.
The steel recorded three victories in a row and is in the second place in the play-out, but will not be able to participate in the Dam for Conference League, regardless of the position it will be at the end of the competition.
Steel Galați: “The club's objective remains to be kept in Superliga. UEFA competitions, priority for season 2026/27”
“SC Oţelul Galaţi wants to inform the public opinion, the supporters and partners that, for the competition season 2025/2026, he submitted the necessary documentation exclusively to obtain the license in Superliga, not applying for the UEFA license.
This decision was made following a rigorous analysis of the financial and sports situation existing at the beginning of 2025. The club faced a delicate period from a financial point of view, it is necessary to balancing the economic balance for 2024. In this context, the absolute priority had become obtaining the Liga 1 license, an essential condition for the Romanian football.
We also mention that the reference data for reporting the financial situation in the licensing process differs and involves additional efforts: for the UEFA license, the reference term for the due debts is February 28, 2025, while for the Liga 1 license, this is December 31, 2024. From this perspective, in relation to the resources available and the need for an exclusive management, to the need for the need. on fulfilling the national licensing criteria.
The objective of the club was and remains to be maintained in the superlig, the financial and administrative consolidation, as well as the thorough training of the future. Thus, we want to submit the documentation for the competition season 2026/2027 of UEFA competitions to become a priority, but until then we focus every effort to end the current season as far from the hot area of the standings. In order to quickly resolve this equation, we need as many supporters as possible at the parties that remain disputed this spring.
SC Otelul Galati assumes this whole strategy as part of a larger sustainable stabilization and development process, and other details in the next period will be announced. We thank for the understanding and for the constant support offered to our team! ”, It is shown in the press release.
Of the teams in the play-out, only Sepsi Sfântu Gheorghe and Farul Constanța can participate in the Dam for Conference League.
