The compulsory pact from a legal point of view is meant to strengthen the world defense against new pathogens, after the Covid-19 Pandemia killed millions of people in 2020-2022.
The proposal presents measures to prevent future pandemics and to strengthen global collaboration. These include the establishment of an access system to pathogenic agencies and share benefits and strengthen various research capacities geographically, according to news.ro.
The agreement also proposes a global supply chain and a logistics network, while also emphasizing the strengthening and training of health systems.
“After more than three years of intense negotiations, WHO Member States have taken an important step in the efforts to make the world more away from pandemics.” transmitted the health body in a statement.
The agreement is widely perceived as a victory for the Global Health Agency, at a time when multilateral organizations such as WHO have been affected by drastic reductions in US financing.
The United States, which has delayed the initial discussions late, left the discussions this year, after the new President Donald Trump issued an executive order in February by which he withdrew the US from WHO and discussions.
The proposal will be taken into account at the policy meeting of the World Health Assembly in May, the WHO announced.
“This is a historical moment and a demonstration of the fact that, with or without the US, the countries are determined to work together at the power of multilateralism.” He told Reuters Nina Schwalbe, the founder of the Spark Street Advisors reflection group, who deals with global health.
