The red eggs are not missing from the Easter table of Christians nor from the church. Traditionally, the Easter eggs are painted using naturally obtained colors, from flowers, onions, birch leaves or walnut leaves. Traditionally, Easter eggs are painted on the big Thursday, but this is no longer a rule.
The traditional color with which the Easter eggs are painted is the red one, but today other colors are used, such as yellow, blue and green.
When Easter eggs are painted
Easter eggs are painted on Thursday, according to tradition. For Christians, the red eggs remind, first of all, the sacrifice of the Savior of Christ on the Cross of Golgotha. The Orthodox tradition speaks of Saint Mary Magdalena crying at the feet of the Cross of Christ, and his blood reddened the eggs under the cross.
Another faith is related to the fact that Saint Mary Magdalena went to Roman Emperor Tiberiu and greeted: “Christ has risen!” The emperor said, looking at an egg on his table: “Christ did not rise as this egg is not red.” At that moment, the egg was red. The red symbolizes the blood of Christ which gives life to the world, being the symbol of resurrection.
Today, however, Easter eggs are not only painted on Thursday. Many choose to paint them around the Easter day, as they have more time on the weekend and are organized better.
Natural methods to paint Easter eggs
In order for the painted eggs for Easter to be beautiful and appreciated, you must take care of their preparation before applying their paint. The eggs are washed well, to degrease – a little dishwasher can be used – after which it is rinsed with plenty of water. Then boil, 10-12 minutes, over low heat, to avoid breaking.
If you choose to use the paint from the trade, you will need to put them in a bowl of water, vinegar and paint to fix the color as best as possible. After a minute, remove each egg and wipe it well with an absorbent kitchen paper.

Eggs painted with red beet
You need a red beet, eggs, vinegar, water and a tablespoon of oil. As you let the eggs fir, clean and cut the beets, which you will add in the water in which the eggs are boiling. Boil the eggs with beet for about half an hour at the slightest fire possible, and then turn off the heat.
Leave the eggs in the water in which beetroot boiled overnight for the most beautiful results. The next day, take each egg, anoint it with a napkin soaked with oil and ready!
Eggs painted with red cabbage
You need half a red cabbage, eggs, vinegar, water and a tablespoon of oil. Likewise, put the eggs to the boil and in parallel, chop the cabbage. After seven minutes of boiling eggs, add the cabbage and boil for another 30 minutes.
Turn off the fire and Laura Laurențiu recommend that you leave the eggs in the colorful water of cabbage and resume the process with the napkin and oil.
Eggs painted with turmeric
For natural yellow eggs, you need the color of two tablespoons of turmeric. This time, put two tablespoons of turmeric in a pot of water and mix well. Over, add two other tablespoons of vinegar, eggs and boil.
Leave to a boil for 10-15 minutes and then turn off the heat, allowing the eggs to stand overnight in the colored water. Likewise, resume the process with the egg wipe the second day.
Eggs painted with onion sheets
The dried onion sheets are tightened, preferably red onion to get the red color. The yellow onion paints the copper eggs.
Sheets from 20 onions – 15 tomatoes and 5 yellows – put in about three liters of water and boil for about an hour. Then strain the water and pour over the eggs that are boiled for almost 10 minutes. In the liquid add a little salt, and in the end 3-4 tablespoons of vinegar for fixing the color.
The eggs are allowed to cool in the pot with the colored liquid, and in the end they are anointed with a little oil to be glossy.
