The 180th anniversary of the scientific description of the Putoran plateau of Putoran was celebrated by the opening of a new tourist route
The adventure-educational expedition on snowmobiles along the new ground route to the princess waterfall on the Putoran plateau took place on April 4-6 of this year. 11 people took part in it.
The expedition was decided to timed to timid to the 180th anniversary of the scientific description of the Putilen plateau by a Russian researcher, a scientist from St. Petersburg, Alexander Middendorf, which he spent for the first time in 1844 and thus became the first researcher of the Taimyr Peninsula. The heroism of the scientist has become a determining factor in preparation for the expedition.
The route in the security zone was agreed with the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Tymyra Reserves”. During the trip, the expedition participants overcame about 400 km in total, focusing on satellite navigators.
The departure took place on April 4 from the base in the city part of the Talny district, the route ran through Lake Glubokoye, its other name is Omuk-Kyuel. Participants in complete equipment reached and were placed on the first night at the tourist base. That evening, the weather for the Arctic spring was quite comfortable: minus 16 degrees, sunny, wind 3 m/s, feels minus 23 degrees. All three days there was cloudless weather, so every night it was possible to observe the northern lights in its all kinds of colors.
The path to the waterfall of the princess ran from the hut to the omuk-kyuyul, bypassing the Ikandekit river and muksunnnelals. After that, the participants went to the riverbed of the Drynygda River, which passes between the mountains. For tens of kilometers in the Arctic, you will not meet a single living soul, so one of the tasks of the expedition was the study of the animal world. During the trip, the participants met with various animals and birds, took their photos, sketches, despite the rather cool weather.
To visit the plateau, it was necessary to climb the mountain under a strong bias. At the disposal of the expedition were snowmobiles with a capacity of 160 horsepower. With their help, the rise in the most difficult areas rushed, which allowed utilitarian snowmobiles with a smaller hook on the caterpillar to rise to the plateau. The plateau was at an altitude of about 1200 meters.
Materials on the topic
Moving along the top of the plateau before reaching the princess’s waterfall, the expedition was visited by an nameless waterfall, marked on a map, the height of which is 67 meters. The expedition participants proposed to give him a name, among which were: “former”, “groom”, “prince”, “67” and others. However, in the end, a single opinion did not work out. From an unknown waterfall, a view of the mountain massif is opened towards the Omutkanen River.
The expedition reached the waterfall of the princess only by the evening of April 5. On this day, on the approaches to the waterfall, the flags of Russia, Norilsk, the Russian Geographical Society, the Northern Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Union were reached.
Thus, a new ground tourist route to the princess waterfall is open on the Putoran plateau, previously, tourists in most cases reached this place exclusively on helicopters.

Chairman of the Norilsk City Council of Deputies Alexander Pestryakov as a professional tourist praised the results of the expedition of colleagues and called this kind of event – a positive factor in the development of tourism in the Arctic as a whole:
“This exit is a vivid example of socially responsible tourism for which we have been advanced for many years. The organized group conducted an expedition with special permission from the reserve on a pre -approved program and route. The discovery of new tourist destinations, even local and in the form of vector radial races is a good trend, ”he said.
