In Norilsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, the level of pollutant emissions over the year decreased by almost 400 thousand tons. This follows from the annual report of the Minister of Ecology Vladimir Chasovitin, which he presented at the session of the Legislative Assembly.

The minister said that total emissions into the atmosphere over the year in the region decreased from 2704.2 thousand tons (in 2023) to 2382.3 thousand tons, and emissions from stationary sources – from 2488.5 thousand tons to 2156 thousand tons. According to him, the level of air pollution last year in Achinsk, Kansk, Krasnoyarsk, Lesosibirsk, Minusinsk and Nazarovo was assessed as “very high,” and Norilsk left the list of cities with very high levels of pollution. At the same time, separately in the Norilsk industrial region, emissions decreased over the year by a record 401.3 thousand tons.

“The concentration of sulfur dioxide in Norilsk decreased by 31.4%. It is this indicator that indicates that the actions carried out by the plant lead to a reduction in the concentration of pollutants in the city,” the minister noted, emphasizing that these data are confirmed by the federal and regional monitoring system.

Such indicators were achieved thanks to the implementation of the Sulfur Program at Norilsk Nickel. As a result, 389.8 thousand tons of pollutants were not released into the atmosphere.

Let us remind you that the first technological line of the recycling complex at the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant began operating at the end of 2023, and last year it reached its planned volumes.

“Norilsk is the most successful in reducing emissions into the atmosphere, since the Sulfur Project, which Norilsk Nickel launched, is showing its effect. It had to be implemented in difficult times, since design solutions were based on some technologies, and due to sanctions pressure it was necessary to reorient to others. Nevertheless, the effect of this project in Norilsk can already be literally felt,” said Vitaly Drozdov, chairman of the regional parliament’s committee on natural resources and ecology.

The final results of the federal project “Clean Air”, in which Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk, Achinsk, Lesosibirsk and Minusinsk participate, will be summed up in 2026.
