Artists-activists and creation as a way of expressing political options

Some artists intend to include political positions in their works of art, and over the years have created famous works of art that remain relevant. From Frida Kahlo to Banksy, from Weiwei to Pablo Picasso and Faith Ringgold.
Many times they have sparked controversy, and the most recent including participation in major artistic events.
In 2022, the 15th edition of Documenta, a prestigious German event dedicated to the contemporary art to which Dan Perjovschi was invited, held the first pages following a controversy around the exposure by the Indonesian Taring Padi of a work considered anti-Semitic. This year, Australia has announced that it withdraws its representative to the Venice Biennial of Art 2026 – artist Khaled Sabsabi, who ran away from the Lebanon Civil War while he was a child and now lives in the west of Sydney. The decision was taken after its works were brought back into question by which “it is played with the western fears of cultural difference”.
