Mescalina and the tribute to Corneliu Michăilescu to Manet

“The newest Olympia”, painted in 1930 by Corneliu Michăilescu, is a painting-tribute for the “Olympia” of Édouard Manet. Moreover, it is a result, it could be said, of the period in which the Romanian artist collaborated with the reputed neurologist Gheorghe Marinescu.
Michăilescu has obeyed, along with other artists – painters and musicians – less well -known, by mescaline experiments, one of the oldest psychedelic drugs. Hallucinations, colored visions, after it was administered is considered to have been transposed into various works, including the “newest olympia”.
