Victor Ponta chaired on May 19, 2014 at the Victoria Palace, as a prime minister, a flood command in which he spoke and about the support that Romania can grant to Serbia and Bosnia. Ponta said that the Serbs “managed to avoid catastrophes, including flooding the Belgrade” and demanding representatives from the Romanian waters and Hidroelectrica “to calculate as well as well what can be evacuated on the Danube so that we do not leave them with too much water, nor do we flood”.

The decisions taken in the Government on May 19, 2014 and all the discussions have been fully transcribed on the Government's website.

Victor Ponta had Liviu Dragnea, at that time Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development, and Gabriel Oprea, at that time Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. During the meeting it was decided to set up a national command in Craiova, and Liviu Dragnea was appointed to coordinate all the operations related to the floods in the country.

What support did Victor Ponta ask for Serbia and Bosnia

Victor Ponta also said that “these days, we also coordinated with the authorities in Serbia and we managed to avoid even greater dangers.”

Ponta demanded support solutions and appointed Secretary of State Raed Arafat and the president of the National State Administration Dan Cornel Baranca to keep in touch with the authorities of the two countries.

“” To immediately make available what they need both on the side-first of all one of the pumps (…) We have everything in five, two in Timisoara and three in Bucharest. One of the ones from Timisoara can be made immediately, to contact the authorities in Serbia to borrow this period. We help, “said Victor Ponta.

“As Romania wants to be helped when confronted with great troubles, we must also do with Serbia and Bosnia. And please Mr. Arafat, so you keep in touch with the authorities in Serbia and Bosnia and with everything we can help them,” said Victor Ponta.

Ponta: “Let's find solutions that only specialists can say, not politicians”

Mircea Duşa, Minister of Defense at that time, stressed that Romania has a helicopter squadron in Timisoara who can intervene in the case of floods, when Ponta asked to ask the authorities in Serbia if they can be helped.

“Good. The same thing to ask the authorities in Serbia if we can help them with anything else. I understand that there, beyond losses of human lives and huge material losses, they have even managed to avoid catastrophes, including flooding the Belgrade,” said Victor Ponta.

He then asked for support from the Romanian Waters and Hidroelectrica. “Let's calculate as well as we can evacuate on the Danube so that we do not leave them with too much water, nor do we flood. Let us find those solutions that only the specialists can say, not the politicians, by the way, how much we leave to the Iron Gates,”

HotNews.ro also requested a point of view to the Secretary of State Raed Arafat regarding the actions taken by Romania in support of Serbia and Bosnia, but until the publication of this article I did not receive answers.

Victor Ponta claims that he saved Belgrade, flooding Romanian villages

Victor Ponta declared in an interview that he received Serbian citizenship because in 2014, when he was prime minister, he ordered the Romanian structures to open the Valley from the Iron Gates and thus the Serbian capital was not flooded.

He said that, on the other hand, the Romanian side was flooded, but the people were moved and damages were quickly given.

Former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, who held the position of Deputy Prime Minister when Victor Ponta was at the forefront of the Government of Romania, claimed that the current independent candidate for Cotroceni “distorts the truth to his advantage” and “suffer from mythomania”.

Dragnea believes that the arguments made by Ponta to justify Serbian citizenship have the role of hiding the real reason, namely that it was the “reserve plan” if he was sentenced to court.

And the former Minister of Water, Doina Pană, said that the situation that Victor Ponta talks about was not, claiming that Romania had to open the Iron Gates, as the current candidate independent of the presidency said.

Hidroelectrica transmitted on Thursday in a press release that the exploitation of iron gates in May 2014 complied with the conventions and legislation in force.
