AUR announces that it does not have the necessary signatures for the suspension of President Nicusor Dan

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) announced on Tuesday that only in February the formation will have a clear situation of the number of parliamentarians who will support the initiative to suspend President Nicușor Dan.
AUR MP Ștefănița Avrămescu announced that, at the moment, the initiative of the Pace – First Romania group is supported by 120 parliamentarians.
“At the moment we rely on 120 signatures, we can reach about 140. By February, in the discussions we will have, we can collect the 155 signatures,” said the deputy.
He explained that until February they will continue the meetings with the rest of the sovereignist parties in the Parliament and that until then they will try to convince the POT deputies and senators to sign the initiative.
“In the next period we will try to convince including Mrs. Gavrila to sign this initiative with us, as well as other parliamentarians from the governmental arch”, Avrămescu also said.
Anamaria Gavrilă, the president of POT, condemned the request to suspend President Nicușor Dan, initiated by a group of parliamentarians, for which signatures are being collected starting today.

“There is a request from PACE for the suspension of Nicușor Dan circulating. We are not signing it as long as Mr. Georgescu is not allowed to run,” said the deputy, on Sunday evening, in a message published on Facebook.
“They are trying to replace Nicușor Dan with Ilie Bolojan”, added Gavrila.
Senator Ninel Peia from the PACE Group – First Romania announced on December 21 that a group of parliamentarians intends to initiate the suspension of President Nicușor Dan, whom they accuse of interference in the functioning of justice, as a result of the announcement by the head of state regarding the organization of a referendum among magistrates.
What does the law say?
The suspension of the President of Romania is regulated by Article 95 of the Constitution which stipulates that:
“(1) In case of committing serious acts that violate the provisions of the Constitution, the President of Romania may be suspended from office by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, in a joint session, with the vote of the majority of the deputies and senators, after consulting the Constitutional Court. The President may give explanations to the Parliament regarding the acts attributed to him.
(2) The proposal for suspension from office may be initiated by at least one third of the number of deputies and senators and shall be brought to the attention of the President without delay.
(3) If the proposal for suspension from office is approved, within 30 days at most a referendum is organized for the dismissal of the President”.
