The European Commission presented on Wednesday the so-called “action plan for the AI continent”, by which the EU wants to become a “world leader in the field of artificial intelligence”. Among the proposed initiatives are the construction of a network of “gigafabrici” AI, but also the creation of specialized laboratories to which the startup has access. It is also desired to develop an “internal data market”.

Gigafabrici de Ai

The EU refers to “AI or” gigafabrici factories and defines them as large units, which host the latest generation chips for training and developing the most advanced models.

“The Commission will strengthen the European and supercomputing infrastructure through a network of AI factories. 13 of these factories are already installed around the most important supercomputers in Europe. They will support the newly established companies, the industry and researchers in the EU develop models and applications.

The EU will also contribute to the establishment of AI gigafabrici. These will be large -scale units, equipped with about 100,000 chips of the latest generation, four times more than current factories. They will integrate a massive calculation power and data centers, to train and develop complex models of AI, at an unprecedented dimension, ”the commission statement is said.

The community block has also announced that it will set up a new support for “AI AI” (you have service desk), meant to help companies in the region comply with its artificial intelligence reference law. This “AI Act Service Desk” is designed to be the central contact and counseling point for companies that must comply with regulations.

The main objectives of the plan refer to:

  • Constructing a data -based data and calculation infrastructure and computing
  • Increasing access to high quality data volumes
  • Developing algorithms and promoting AI adoption in EU's strategic sectors
  • Consolidation of skills and talents in AI domain
  • Simplification of regulations

A key point of the plan is increasing access to high volumes of high quality data.

“An important element of the action plan concerns the creation of data laboratories to bring together and manage large volumes from different sources, in AI factories. A comprehensive data strategy will be launched in 2025, to create a true internal data market that can expand AI solutions.”

Through this action plan, the Commission opens today two public consultations that will take place until June 4, 2025, to continue to model these initiatives of the Action Plan for Europe.

  • A public consultation by which all interested parties are invited to share their views on the law of cloud development and
  • A public consultation regarding the application to identify the priorities of the interested parties, the challenges related to the adoption and relevance of the proposed policy solutions and approaches – including additional measures to ensure the harmonious and simple application of the law on AI.
