The first case of bird flu (H5N1) in Mexico was found in a three -year -old girl from the state of Durango in the north of the country – said the Ministry of Health, quoted on Saturday by the AP agency. The child was hospitalized, his condition is referred to as severe.

So far, no evidence has been found for easy virus transmission (H5N1) from man to man, the ministry said. It was emphasized that the World Health Organization (WHO) assesses the risk of public health as low.
A particularly contagious variant of the H5N1 spreads among animals in the world since 2020, leading to the formation of bird influenza outbreaks, including on industrial poultry farms. Occasional infections are also detected in other species of animals, including bears, cats, dairy cows, dogs, dolphins, seals, alpak and tigers.
Individual infections among people began to be detected mainly in 2024. The disease occurs with very different severity – from the total lack of symptoms to, in rare cases, death. The case of the virus movement between people has not been confirmed so far. (PAP)
