On this day, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Artemia (Artemon), Bishop of Solunsky. He lived and preached at the dawn of Christianity-in the 1-2 centuries.
The weather by this time in the largest territory of Rus' was already warm, the snow was melting, and those peasants who had not yet bothered to change the sled to a cart, risked to tear the runners. On this day, the peasants burned bonfires in the yard and bypassed the huts in circles – this was done to expel evil spirits. The fire was also bred along the roads to indicate the travelers to the church.
