In the old days a lively city, Barrow-in-Furness, is considered at present the saddest city in the UK, due to unemployment, many drug problems and the fact that many companies have been closed.

Barrow-in-Furness has almost 72,000 inhabitants and is located in the west of Great Britain. And the well -known British daily Daily Mail made a broad report in the city, talking to his residents about life and atmosphere here. The government authorities in London have a city revival plan, a plan to be funded with 200 million pounds, which would create several thousand jobs, but its inhabitants are afraid that the plan will be delayed. Hundreds of shops have been closed here in recent years.
In the “saddest city in the UK”, hundreds of Romanians live. The journalists from Daily Mirror spoke with two Romanians living here.
Cristina Radu, 29, is a manager of a car washer and has arrived in Barrow in Romania seven years ago and has a conclusive verdict.
“People are cold as the weather. When I first arrived, I had discrimination because I was not from the UK and it still seems to me that people do not want to talk to me when I hear my emphasis. It is a shame because it could be a beautiful city and I hope that the money spent through the government project will make the life of everyone better.”said Cristina Radu.
Her friend, Iuliana Airinei, 30, told British journalists:
“The real problem here is that there are no jobs. There is a lot of attention to what is happening on the shipyard, but if you can't do that work, there is nothing, especially if you are not from here.”
The main streets are empty. The lack of customers led to the closing of several floors in the city.
Debenhams, once an emblem of the main street, was closed – without any commercial center replacing it. And most inhabitants are skeptical about a city's revival.
