Thousands of people went out on the streets of Seoul on Saturday to protest the former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol. The judges' decision was taken as a result of the failed attempt of the president to impose the martial law in early December, writes AFP, quoted by News.ro.
The eight judges of the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to dismiss it, after a long procedure, triggering anticipated presidential elections within 60 days. The verdict caused explosions of joy in front of the Court's headquarters.
On Saturday, wearing waterproof to protect themselves from the rain, thousands of supporters of the former president gathered in the center of Seoul to protest the decision. “The decision of the Constitutional Court has destroyed the free democracy of our country,” said Yang Joo-Young, for AFP.
Yoon surprised South Korea on the night of December 3 to 4, surprisingly declaring the martial law and sending the army to take control over the opposition -dominated Parliament. But a sufficient number of deputies managed to meet to counter the plans quickly.

The former conservative leader justified his actions referring to threats from the “North Korean communist forces” and his desire to “eliminate the hostile elements of the state” and also stated without evidence that previous elections were fraudulent. Many of its supporters have repeated these statements every weekend since the beginning of the political crisis in December.
The opposition leader, Lee Jae-Myung, the clear favorite of the anticipated presidential elections, is rather in favor of a policy of approaching North Korea. Many of the Pro-Yoon camp accuse him of conspiracy with the Phenian communist regime and believe that the declaration of the martial law was necessary.
The Constitutional Court, on the other hand, decided that the coup was “a serious threat to the stability of the Democratic Republic.” Yoon also faces criminal accusations of insurrection – a liable offense of death penalty.
