The president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, announced that he will propose to his party colleagues “a slightly more extensive consultation” to determine whether they want to remain in government in the current configuration “or in a more restricted form, without USR, for example, and if we go forward with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan”.

The “evaluation period” regarding remaining in government was to be completed “with the budget”, the PSD leader said, on Wednesday, to G4Media, adding, however, that he intends to propose to his party colleagues the extension of the consultation, in order to establish whether the social democrats want to remain in government, but without USR or with another prime minister.

“A “Yes/No” question, obviously, considering all these aspects, related to the budget, the way the coalition works, the pulse that the mayors, our local councilors feel very well, if we keep this coalition in this form, that is together PSD-PNL-UDMR-USR, or in a more limited form, without USR, for example, and if we go forward with the Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan”, declared Sorin Grindeanu.

He believes that “the protocol can remain very simple PSD-PNL-UDMR and with another prime minister given by the PNL”.

What he said about the relationship with Bolojan and USR

Sorin Grindeanu claims that the social-democratic public is dissatisfied with the partnership between his party and USR.

“The PSD public, not only the militants, not only the members, reproach us. They reproach us for making this, let's say, alliance with the USR. We have issues that divide us, many things divide us. In the end, the USR made its party with the Swedish license plate against the PSD, but that's another topic,” he declared.

At the same time, the PSD leader said that the relationship between the PSD and liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was not “extraordinarily smooth and constructive in these months”.

“And then it's absolutely normal to ask, to ask my colleagues, to ask those who decided to enter the government 10 months ago, if we continue like this”, continued Grindeanu.

The PSD president claims that he and his colleagues “believed that things would go in a different direction than what happened in these months.”

“I prefer to go and tell the Romanians correctly that (…) we were wrong and, “fair” (correct, no), directly, transparently, we say that this protocol, even if next year it would mean that the PSD comes and gives the prime minister, it can no longer go forward, than to function in a partnership from this one that creaks – and creaks badly. I believe that things must be discussed transparently”, Sorin Grindeanu also declared.
