The Bulgarian army took all the necessary measures after the incident with the drone that entered the Romanian airspace on Saturday evening, gave insurance Prime Minister Rosen Jeliazkov, quoted by the website of the public radio station.

“Measures have been taken to protect our air space, especially in the northeast of the country, as part of the consolidation of the South-East Flank of NATO. We monitor the situation very carefully, because we must guarantee the safety of civil aviation,” said Bulgarian prime minister, according to news.ro.

“And I think that the Russian Federation will be very careful and will avoid any incidents in the Black Sea, where air traffic is extremely intense,” added Prime Minister Rosen Jeliazkov.

The Ministry of Defense of Romania announced on Saturday night that two F-16 aircraft were sent on a mission after a drone entered the country's airspace during a Russian attack on the Ukrainian infrastructure near the border. The Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Măriţă, said that the hunting pilots were about to break down the drone, who flew very low, before leaving the country's airspace in the direction of Ukraine.

The Bulgarian government condemned the violation of Poland's airspace a few days ago, considering that it was an “unprovocated” act. Prime Minister Jeliazkov described what happened as an absolutely useless challenge, which does not help to calm the situation between Russia and the countries of the European Union, on the one hand, and between Russia and NATO members, on the other.

“More and more arguments are brought in favor of what unites us in the coalition of will-that we need serious security guarantees for Europe, so that it is clear that the Union has the training and defense capacity needed to prevent any attempt to challenge and aggression,” said Jeliazkov, quoted in a Sofia Government statement.
