The Russian independent publication Mediazona, in collaboration with the Russian service of the BBC, confirmed the identity of 130,150 Russian soldiers killed in Ukraine, The Kyiv Independent reports.

The last report covers the period February 24, 2022 – September 11, 2025. Since the last update, another 4,469 Russian soldiers have been confirmed.

The investigation states that the real number of victims is probably significantly higher, because the verified information comes from public sources, such as obituary, posts on the social networks of relatives, regional media reports, statements of local authorities and other sources.

The number of victims registered by Mediazone does not include military losses in the Donetk and Luhansk regions occupied by Russia.

What Ukraine's General Staff announces

Moscow and Kiev rarely provide official reports on their military losses. Ukraine estimates that the total number of victims of Russia during the large -scale war exceeded 1 million.

The last report on the losses suffered by Russia in Ukraine, transmitted by the General Staff of Ukraine on Friday, talks about the fact that Russia “lost” 1,092,780 soldiers in Ukraine since its invasion. The figures are largely in accordance with the estimates made by Western Information Agencies.

Chief commander Oleksandr Syrskyi claimed on September 9 that Russia lost almost 300,000 soldiers in 2025.
