PE did not agree for a minute of silence
In response to the request of Weimers, the deputy head of the EP KATARINA BARLEY from a group of socialists and democrats – who conducted the meeting – replied that this case was discussed by the management of the EP and The chairwoman of the Chamber Robert Metsool did not agree for a minute of silence for Kirk. “This is a prerogative of the chairman to decide whether there will be a minute of silence or there will be a minute of silence,” Barley said.
In response to the words of Barley, the protests appeared in the right -wing part of the EP.
“It is a scandal that the Presidium of the European Parliament rejected the conclusion of the EKR Group to celebrate a minute of silence of Charlie Kirk's memory, and even tried to ignore this gesture during a plenary session. Common values should include respect for human dignity, the value of life and condemnation of crime” – wrote on platform X PiS MEP Piotr Müller (PiS).
The close ally of President Donald Trump, 31-year-old Kirk, died on Wednesday after being shot during a speech at the Utah Valley University. The perpetrator remains at large, and his identity has not yet been established.
