Over 150 people who have challenged prohibition of a pro-palestine group were arrested in London

Over 150 people were arrested on Saturday in the largest demonstration organized so far against the prohibition of the Palestine Action organization, cataloged terrorist organization, The Guardian and Reuters write.

Defend Our Juries, the organizer of the demonstrations, said that on Saturday, in the Parliament Square, there were 1,500 people who participated in a new protest against prohibition.

The United Kingdom forbade Palestine Action in July, under anti-terrorist legislation, after some of its members entered a base of royal air forces and damaged military aircraft.

The group, which also targeted the UK defense companies with links with Israel, accuses the British Government of complicity in what it considers to be war crimes committed in Gaza.

Police have arrested hundreds of supporters of Palestine Action GRP in recent weeks under anti-terrorist legislation, including over 500 in a single day last month, many of them over 60 years old.

On Saturday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered near the Parliament in central London to protest the ban, many of them holding banners: “I oppose the genocide. I support Palestine Action.”

London metropolitan police said about 150 people were detained for a number of crimes, including aggression on police and supporting a prohibited organization.

The police claimed that the officers who intervened “were subjected to an exceptional level of abuse”, being hit with fists or feet, were spit or swear.

The Defend Organization Our Juries responded to the police statement, saying that the officers “violently assaulted the peaceful protesters, including the elderly, to try to arrest over 1,000 people because they were holding cardboard banners” and distributed a video where you can see how the officers push people to the ground.

The prohibition for Palestine Action places the group with Al-Qaeda and ISIS and makes support or belonging to the organization, be punished by up to 14 years in prison.

The police warned before the demonstration on Saturday that any person who will show support for the group will be arrested.

Human rights groups have criticized the decision of the United Kingdom to prohibit the group as disproportionate and say that it limits the freedom of expression of peaceful protesters.

The British government has accused Palestine Action of causing millions of pounds and says that prohibition does not prevent other pro-palestinian protests.

Over 100 people have been accused of showing support for the group in recent weeks.
