Massive availability at OMV Petrom. There are over 1,000 employees / unionists say they were not notified: “We were shocked” / what the company says

OMV Petrom transmitted, in relation to the information regarding the availability in the company, that an “flexible and agile” organizational structure is essential.

Petrom will be the most affected by the availability in the OMV group, being in danger the jobs of over 1,000 of the 10,000 employees are currently, the company races said for HotNews.

“All decisions regarding OMV Petrom employees are taken within OMV Petrom, in full compliance with the legal requirements and in close consultation with unions,” the company representatives said, in an official response to Hotnews.

The unions learned from the press about layoffs

The trade unionists who represent the employees claim, however, that they have not been officially notified by any dismissal plan.

OMV Petrom: Any change aims to improve efficiency and agility

OMV Petrom claims that a “flexible and agile” structure is essential in a changing environment.

“We constantly evaluate our organizational ability to respond to the environment-the market context and the energy transition. A flexible and agile organizational structure is essential in a rapidly changing environment. The current environment is one with many challenges and, therefore, we have intensified the cost optimization programs at the level of the whole organization,” OMV said.

“Such evaluations can lead to adjustments of how we work, including adjustments of the organizational structure. Any change we consider aims to improve efficiency and agility,” said OMV Petrom.

“All restructuring in OMV Petrom are carried out with the granting of social rights according to the provisions of the collective labor contract at the company level.

OMV Petrom does not comment on “the figures regarding the restructuring of the personnel at the company level”.

According to the Austrian press, about 2,000 people out of 23,000 could be made at the group level. The Romanian company OMV Petrom is the most affected, with restructuring aimed at over 1,000 jobs, according to HotNews sources.

Unusually for the listed companies, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, the Minister of Economy in Austria, had a reaction to the OMV layoffs, saying that they must be socially acceptable.

“I made a clear communicated to the Executive Committee that these plans must be designed in a socially acceptable way and I clarified that I expect a close involvement of employees' representatives. To evaluate the current discussion,” according to the Austrian Trend.

Unlike his counterpart in Austria, the Minister of Energy in Romania, Bogdan Ivan, has not made any statement so far. This is under the conditions in which the Ministry of Energy is a minority shareholder of OMV Petrom.
