Gold proposes that students and teachers sing the anthem and say the prayer “Our Father” at the beginning of each school day

A legislative project submitted on September 2 to the Economic and Social Council (CES) by the Gold MPs provides for the introduction of solemn moments in schools, which includes the intonation of the national anthem and the utterance of the prayer “Our Father”.

The legislative initiative proposes to complete Law no. 198/2023 of pre -university education and has the purpose, according to the exposure of motives of the parliamentarians, “strengthening the feeling of national belonging and educating in the spirit of respect for the fundamental values ​​of the nation”.

Gold parliamentarians invoke examples from countries such as Poland, Greece and Italy, where, they claim, there are moments dedicated to national symbols and prayer.

Participation, optional

The project stipulates that at the beginning of each day of school the national anthem “Wake up, Romanian!” And the prayer “Our Father” spoke. The participation of students and teachers will be optional, according to the initiators.

“The optional character of participation in prayer for all categories of participants – preschoolers, students and teachers – demonstrates the full respect of the legislative proposal for the principle of freedom of consciousness and religious”, mentioned in the document.

At the same time, the initiators mention that there are mechanisms by which the teachers who refuse the participation can be replaced. “This procedural flexibility, which also includes mechanisms for the replacement of the teachers who refuse the participation, ensures the necessary balance between the national educational objectives and the respect of the confessional and conscientious diversity in the Romanian society,” writes in the document.

The project is initiated by the gold deputy Cristina-Emanuela Dascălu and is supported by 33 other parliamentarians of the formation.
