The population of Romania has dropped dramatically. Foreign workers, rescue collage

The population of Romania decreased dramatically last year, given the rates of birth and mortality, which only partially compensated by immigrants who came to work in Romania, according to information published on Friday.

Foreign workers who came to Romania are insufficient to compensate for the population decline
On January 1, 2025, the resident population was 19.03 million people, decreasing by 31,500 persons from January 1, 2024, according to information published on Friday.
According to him, the main cause of decrease is naturally negative increase (the difference between the number of years and the deceased: -101.8 thousand people).
“Balance of Positive International Migration: +58.8 thousand people but insufficient to compensate for natural loss“, Statistical data shows.
On January 1, 2025, the resident population in the urban environment was 9768 thousand people, down 1.3% in front of January 1, 2024. The female population on January 1, 2025 was 9777 thousand people, decreasing by 0.2% compared to the same date of the previous year. The process of demographic aging has deepened, the share of the elder population (65 years and over) continuing its growth trend: compared to January 1, 2024 with 0.3 percentage points (from 20.0% in 2024 to 20.3% to January 1, 2025).
The weight of the population of 0-14 years in total population decreased from 15.9% to January 1, 2024 to 15.6% January 1, 2025. The demographic aging index increased from 125.8 (on January 1, 2024) to 130.0 elderly to 100 young people (on January 1, 2025). The report of demographic dependence stagnated to 56.1 young and elderly to 100 adults (on January 1, 2025).
Foreign workers are insufficient to compensate for population decline
The balance of international migration in 2024 was positive, the number of immigrants exceeding the number of emigrants with 58.8 thousand people. Thus, Romania continued to be an immigration country. However, the balance of international migration, decreasing from previous years, has failed to compensate for the negative natural increase (-102 thousand people). As a result, on January 1, 2025, the resident population of Romania was declining compared to the same date of the previous year. During 2024, men were majority among both emigrants (57.6%) and immigrants (58.3%).

Despite these records and the need of the state to hire foreign workers, in the context of the labor deficit, there are unfortunate incidents such as that of the deliverer attacked by a Romanian for the simple reason that he was not born in us in the country.
We remind that an Asian man, a food supplier in Bucharest, was the victim of a racist attack on Tuesday. The aggressor, who unexpectedly hit his fist and shouted to “He returns to his country”was detained by a policeman in his spare time.
On August 27, the District Court 2 ordered the preventive arrest of the attacker for 30 days.
The President of Romania himself, Nicușor Dan, condemned the incident, emphasizing that such acts of xenophobic violence represent a direct attack on the fundamental values of the Romanian society.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Romania sent thanks to President Nicușor Dan for the firm conviction of the attack and urged the citizens of his country who works in Romania not to lose their confidence.
