The Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentions that civil infrastructure goals have been hit, which “led to new victims among the civilian population, especially children, in Kiev”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also records that the headquarters of the European Union delegation, where Slovak employees also work, suffered from damage.
“Slovakia consistently condemns attacks on the civilian population, whether it is Ukraine, Gaza or any other region. Such actions undermine the efforts to make peace, which must be undertaken and equitably in our region or in the Middle East,” the Posting of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs shows.
The ministry added that peace “should not be taken as a self -evident thing.”
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is, along with the Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orban, among the few leaders in the European Union who maintained relations with Vladimir Putin, despite the Ukraine war, and were received in Kremlin. Lately, the relations of Bratislava with Kiev have been tense by Ukrainian bombing of the Drujba pipe, through which Slovakia imports Russian oil, the deliveries being suspended for a few days. However, the positioning of Slovakia was not as radical as in the case of Hungary, which frequently entered diplomatic conflicts with Kiev and systematically boycotted EU sanctions against Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said on Thursday that Russia's latest attacks prove that the world should introduce tougher sanctions against Russia in response and forces the Kremlin to commit to a cease. “Russia prefers the balloon instead of negotiations,” Zelenski wrote on X. “Choose to continue the crimes instead of ending the war,” he stressed, also asking for stronger diplomatic reactions from China and Hungary, two countries that have maintained close relations with Russia. He also urged the increase of sanctions.
A series of leaders reacted to the Kiev attack during the night, including Maia Sandu, Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Pedro Sanchez. Volodimir Zelenski took their posts on his X account and thanked each one.
Hungary and China have not reacted yet.
