Evgeny Abalakov rHe was in the family of a Cossack, raised in Krasnoyarsk, graduated from the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after Surikov. During the Great Patriotic War, he prepared fighters for the mountain troops and participated in the famous operation – the hooking of the Soviet flag on Elbrus.
“Evgeny Abalakov is the legend of Soviet mountaineering. In 1933, he became the first person who conquered Stalin’s peak (7495 m, now – the peak of communism), having made a historical ascent and opening a new era in domestic sports. In total, he conquered more than 50 peaks, participated in scientific expeditions on Pamir and Tien Shan. The name Abalakova is on routes, competitions, streets and peaks. Everyone who is interested in this heroic sport stores the memory of our great fellow countryman, a courageous man! ”, – said Sergey Ponomarenko.
