US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is resigning. She announced this on May 22 on the social network X.

Gabbard published a letter addressed to US President Donald Trump, which states her resignation effective June 30 and the reason for this decision.

“Dear Mr. President, I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the past year and a half. Unfortunately, I am forced to tender my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. He faces significant challenges in the coming weeks and months. I am now forced to leave government service to be by his side and fully support him.” him in this fight,” she wrote.

Gabbard explained that her husband has been her rock for 11 years of marriage, and now she cannot ask him to fight the disease alone while continuing to hold a “demanding and time-consuming position.”

“While we have made significant progress at ODNI—advancing unprecedented transparency and restoring the integrity of the Intelligence Community—I recognize that there is still important work to be done. I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks so that you and your team do not experience any disruptions in leadership or developments,” she said.

Trump in Truth Social supported Gabbard's decision, although he noted that she “did an incredible job” and the United States will miss her.

“Her distinguished Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, Aaron Lucas, will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence,” the White House chief said.
