The Minister of Education Daniel David has stated, at Antena 3, that in the last period he avoided generating public discussions because if education had given “signs of agitation”, this would have influenced the assessments made by Romania by rating agencies. David said he had been thinking about a possible resignation several times, but this would not solve the fiscal-budgetary crisis that also affects the field of education.

“I stayed by the 8th of July until August 15, I did not talk so much and I did not go into various debates and discussions, because I knew that if education shows signs of agitation, we have problems with the S&P evaluation and with the Fitch evaluation on August 15. (…) Salaries and scholars We, and throughout the country's system, including for pensions and social aid, ”said Daniel David, quoted by News.ro.

David said that he accepted, as a technocrat, the position of minister in the hope that he would be able to reform in the system, but he realized that before the reform there is a need for measures without which the education system, and the country would “block”.

“Why, as a minister, do I have to take these measures? That I did not contribute to that major deficit. I came to this political world from the beginning of the year, as a technocrat. You see, in the first term I came into a political and austerity crisis, in the second term I took an economic crisis and I think it was more time. That, if we do not take these crisis measures, we block our system and risk the whole country, ”said Daniel David.

He confessed that “several times” he took into account the possibility of giving up the portfolio he owns. David claims that he was asked to resign several times, for different reasons.

“Now I am asked to resign in the context of the fiscal-budgetary crisis and I also told the unions: if my resignation has solved the two billion and the budget required for the future years, I with pleasure I resign down. The problem is that, as I see and how we all see, I do not think that this resignation solves the fiscal crisis. Their next year, but at the same time I tell them that the functioning of the system for me is more important than the position of minister, ”added Daniel David.
