Former King of Spain Juan Carlos will publish his memoirs by the end of the year, a precious gesture from a Spanish monarch, Planeta publishing house announced.
Once honored for his role in Spain's transition to democracy, Juan Carlos was forced to abdicate in 2014 after a number of scandals, including an adventure with Danish Corinna Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn and shooting an elephant in Botswana. Now he is seen as a vulnerability to his son, King Felipe.
The Spanish prosecutors investigated suspicions against the former king in Spain and Switzerland, but closed the file due to lack of evidence and prescription. The lawyer of the former king said at that time that the prosecutors had not been able to prove the existence of crimes.
“Reconciliation”, written in persons first, aims to emphasize his essential contribution to the success of the young democracy in Spain during his reign for almost 40 years, a contribution forgotten after the self -existence to Abu Dhabi and some mistakes committed, writes the publishing house.
“My father always advised me not to write my memoirs. The kings do not confess and, certainly, not in public. Their secrets remain buried in the shadow of the palaces.
The former 87 -year -old monarch has moved to Abu Dhabi in 2020 and has not participated in any official action of the Spanish Royal Family. He returns to Spain for scrubbed visits, usually to navigate with his yacht, “Bribon”, on the northwest coast of the country.
The memoirs will report in detail the private part of a public life, in a book “rich in anecdotes that do not bypass the most significant episodes in our recent history, nor the joys and pains of its intimate and personal life,” announces Planeta Publishing House.
