Canada does not exclude sending troops to Ukraine, as part of security guarantees. What did Prime Minister Mark Cariy transmit to Zelenski

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Cariy sent to Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski on Sunday that he holds Ukraine's calls for solid security guarantees in any peace agreement, noting that Ottawa does not exclude the possibility of sending troops in such a framework, notes Reuters.

Three and a half years after Russia's widespread invasion in Ukraine, US President Donald Trump leads peace efforts, and Kiev works with European allies to outline possible security guarantee formulas, to which Trump also appeared open.

Carry, on his first visit to Ukraine since taking over in March, participated with Zelenski at a ceremony organized in the center of Kiev to mark Ukraine's Independence Day. Donald Trump's special emissary for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, was also present at the event.

“We all work for the end of this war to mean the guarantee of peace for Ukraine, so that neither the war nor the threat to the war will remain an inheritance for our children,” Zelenski said in front of the officials gathered in the Sofia Square in Kiev, having as a background of the 11th century.

Zelenski stressed that he wants future security guarantees, part of a possible peace agreement, to be as close to NATO Article 5, which stipulates that an attack on a Member State is considered an attack on all.

Cariy has supported Ukraine's calls on a possible international participation in security guarantees.

“In Canada's opinion, it is not realistic that the only security guarantee is the force of the Ukrainian army … It must be supported and consolidated,” Cary told a common press conference.

The two leaders have also signed an agreement for the co-production of drone, and Cariy has announced that Ukraine will receive Canadian dollars next month (about 723 million US dollars) in the form of military assistance, from a previously announced package.

“We need peace”

Zelenski offered Kellogg a state distinction at the Sunday ceremony, saying “we need peace” when he handed the medal in a leather box.

Later during the day, Kellogg met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Iulia Sviridenko, who said they discussed the agreement on minerals between Ukraine and the United States, as well as the theme of security guarantees.

In the press conference held with Cariy, Zelenski was addressed to an article published by Wall Street Journal, according to which the Pentagon was blocked in recent months, in secret, Ukraine's use of American missiles to hit Russia.

In reply, Zelenski said that, lately, Kiev uses his own long -range weapons, produced in Ukraine, to hit goals inside Russia, without demanding Washington's approval. “Lately, I have not discussed this issue with the United States lately,” said the Ukrainian president.

Ukraine has announced that it has performed nocturnal attacks on an oil refinery in the Russian region Samara, as well as on a gas fractioning facility in the Port of Ust-Luga, an important knot for Russia's energy exports.

Moscow presented its conditions for peace in Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said in an interview for NBC News, that a group of several states, of which members of the UN Security Council will be part of the security of Ukraine. According to him, Germany, Turkey and other countries could also be part of the group.

Lavrov said that Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed a possible security guarantee for Ukraine and that the Russian leader has discussed the Istanbul failed negotiations.

At those negotiations, Russia and Ukraine discussed the permanent neutrality of Ukraine, in exchange for security guarantees offered by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely the United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and the United States, as well as by other countries, according to a copy of a project consulted by Reuters in 2022.

“The guarantees would guarantee the security of Ukraine, which must be neutral, not to be aligned with any military block and to be non-nuclear,” said Lavrov, according to the transcript of the interview.

Lavrov also said that Ukraine's accession to NATO is unacceptable to Russia, that Moscow wants protection for Russian speakers in Ukraine and that a territorial discussion with Kiev must be held.
