In World Day AgainstO AIDS, On December 1, residents of Krasnoyarsk were reminded where they can get tested for HIV.

In Krasnoyarsk andHIV tests are available at the regional center for the prevention and control of AIDS, at any medical healthcare institution and laboratory diagnostic center, reported in the regional clinical hospital.

Over previous years, the Russian Federation has seen a decrease in the incidence of HIV infection from 37.6 (in 2023) to 33.0 per 100 thousand population (in 2024). It is important to know and remember that HIV infection is preventable. All routes of HIV transmission are well studied today,” noted the press service of the medical institution.

HIV/AIDS transmitted:

  • during unprotected sexual intercourse;
  • through blood;
  • with intravenous drug use;
  • when using non-sterile instruments for tattoos and piercings, other people's razors, toothbrushes, manicure instruments, scissors that have blood on them;
  • during transfusion of infected blood;
  • from an HIV-positive mother to a child (the child becomes infected during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding).

Doctors recommend getting tested if a situation arises where there is a risk of contracting HIV. Timely detection of the virus, regular monitoring by a doctor, and adherence to treatment principles help improve the quality and life expectancy of an HIV-infected person and reduce the risk of infecting other people.
