Emmanuel Macron does not believe Vladimir Putin. “Without it he will not keep his obligations”

During the Monday meeting of Donald Trump with the leaders of European countries, the White House talked, among others with safety guarantees for Ukraine after a possible suspension of weapons. Emmanuel Macron was one of those who called to increase pressure on Russia, among others by increasing economic sanctions. The need to introduce this plan made it dependent on the effects of a possible bilateral meeting of Zełnski with Putin and a Trump announced by Trump (Putin – Trump – Zelnski). In an interview with NBC in the “Met the Press” program, however, he did not spray with optimism.

“When I look at the situation and facts, I don't see President Putin to be very willing to make peace now,” he said. “But maybe I'm too pessimist,” he added.

Emmanuel Macron called Russia “an aggressor”

Speaking of his pessimism about Putin's intention, the President of France noted, however, that he sees the optimism of Donald Trump, who in his opinion “should be taken seriously.”

“So if he decides that he is able to finish the market, this is a great message and we must do everything in our power to get as much as possible,” Macron emphasized in an interview with NBC.

In conversations with journalists after a meeting at the White House, Emmanuel Macron indicated how he thinks Russia could be forced to conclude peace and – above all – to meet his conditions. Security guarantees for Ukraine are necessary here.

– If you conclude any peace agreement without a security guarantee, Russia will never fulfill its obligations – he emphasized, quoted by NBC.

He also stated that an alternative plan is necessary in case of lack of progress in subsequent conversations with Putin.

“If this process is rejected, we will all agree that it is necessary to tighten the sanctions, and at least take a position that will put more pressure on the Russian side,” said the French leader, quoted by the Ukrainian Unian service.

The President of France called Russia a “aggressor”, a country that “decided to kill people, stole children and who refused to suspend weapons and peace”, and therefore he cannot be allowed to make concessions, e.g. those regarding the territory of Ukraine.
