American customs not so scary anymore? “They can have a disinflastic effect”

Although the introduction of higher duties is proinflation in the United States, it has a disinflastic effect for other countries – the economists of Citi Handlowy indicate.

“Unless the new duties are not affected at the time of economic activity, they have probably already started to influence the price processes. In Poland itself, this is not visible yet, but in other countries of the region from February the price expectations of companies have clearly deteriorated. World ” – it was written in the Citi report.

“If this tendency was to persist in the following quarters, it would mean an increase in pressure to reduce the inflation of goods prices, allowing central banks in the world to further reduce interest rates. In other words, although the introduction of higher duties is pro -inflationary in the United States, but for other countries it has a disinflastic effect” – added.

Citi economists indicate that the relative resistance of the Polish economy to the American duties is consistent with what one could expect a few months ago.

“Due to the small participation of the USA in Polish exports, Polish companies do not feel so much changes in American trade policy as, for example, producers from Asia. It still seems that the biggest threat is not so much the direct impact of new duties, but rather the indirect effect (through slowdown in the world), but you will have to wait longer, probably a few months, probably a few months” – wrote in the report.

“At this stage, however, it can be stated that the very fact that EU countries have obtained better customs conditions than many other economies partly protects Polish producers” – he added. (PAP Biznes)
