The prototype of a house powered only by hydrogen and solardow was developed by scientists from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow in cooperation with industrial partners. According to them, this is the first prototype of this type of facility in Poland.

According to the Krakow university in a Monday communication, the prototype of the house ensuring independence and energy autonomy was created by an interdisciplinary team led by prof. Magdalena Dudek from the AGH Energy and Fuel Department and project partners from the industry – ZEBEK and PAK Serwis.

The facility is powered by electricity generated from the solar installation, and in case the energy deficiency is taken from battery battery or hydrogen-oxygen fuel cell. Hydrogen, in turn, is produced on site in the electrolysis and stored in tanks.

In the autumn and winter periods, the stored hydrogen is used for the production of electricity and heat in fuel cells. These, in turn, can supply all eclectic energy receivers used on a daily basis, i.e. washing machines, refrigerators, stoves, lighting.

As explained, in the first stage of work, the AGH team built a laboratory equipped with an integrated system of generating and storage of electricity and typical electricity receivers, including Everyday equipment like computers, fridge, washing machine, lighting or coffee maker.

A 6.4kWP photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof of the mobile prototype. According to scientists, this size of PV installation is able to provide electricity used for the needs of the average house. Surplus from the production of electricity from PV installations are stored in the battery of electrochemical batteries and hydrogen.

According to scientists, these solutions can be used to develop another infrastructure, e.g. transport hotels, auxiliary power sources for mass events or for emergency services in crisis situations.

The effect of the team's work is a demonstrator – H2 House – showing a prototype installation of autonomous power supply for a single -family house with electricity, based on its own sources of renewable energy using hydrogen as a warehouse and energy carrier.

The installation, performing the demonstration and research function, was built on a mobile modified maritime container and premiered at this year's international trade fair related to hydrogen technologies Net Zero Energy & H2Poland 2025 in Poznań, where the latest solutions supporting the process of energy transformation were presented.
