Context
On July 22, the Rada adopted bill No. 12414, which provides for the expansion of the powers of the Prosecutor General, including in relation to criminal proceedings engaged in NABU and SAP. The law on the same day Signed Zelensky, the document has already entered into force.
Anti -corruption bodies warned that the law gives the prosecutor general of Ukraine access to all NABU cases, he will have the right to provide instructions to detectives, will be able to close the investigation at the request of the protection party, etc. In the CAP and NABU, they argue that at the last moment the editors were made in the text of the bill, which “actually destroy the independence” of the SAP and NABU.
On July 22, in different cities of Ukraine, protests against the law began, over the next days they were extended.
Anxiety about the law was expressed by the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and others.
