The epicenter of the powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 degrees produced on Wednesday in the Kamceatka Peninsula in the distant East of Russia was located not far from two important Russian naval bases on the Pacific Ocean, one of them being dislocated nuclear submarines, the Ukrainian press and the Russian publication Moskovski Komsomoleț (MK).
Thus, in the potential risk area, the base of nuclear submarines in Viliucinsk and Petopavlovsk-Kamceatski, which mainly hosts surface military vessels, became the base of nuclear submarines.
The earthquake, the first with such magnitude in the last 70 years, has aroused concern in Moscow in relation to the safety of nuclear missile submarines, as revealed by a series of Russian accounts on the Telegram Messenger application, according to Agerpres.
The submarine base in Viliucinsk, carriers of nuclear missiles, is an important component of Russia's strategic naval nuclear forces.
A earthquake of such magnitude could have affected the activity of the radar stations of the warning systems in the event of a missile attack in Kamceatka. Although modern military installations are designed taking into account the seismic activity, an earthquake of this magnitude requires a detailed verification of the safety of all critical systems, notes MK, citing experts.
So far, there have been no official reports on possible damages caused by the earthquake of military infrastructure.
Suspicions that a base of submarines carriers of ballistic rockets with nuclear nuclear has been severely affected
Military expert Vasili Dandîkin, a reserve -rank captain, told MK that the nuclear submarines were neither affected by the earthquake nor by Tsunami.
However, the information on Social Media media circulates that, following the earthquake on Wednesday, the submarine base in Viliucinsk was severely affected, the Ukrainian Portal Telegraph remarked.
According to this information, there would be a threat of flooding of the keys that house the most powerful Russian submarines in the Bora class.
Submersibles of this type can carry bulava missiles and other types of ballistic missiles. But all this information needs to be checked, Telegraph notes.
At the base of Viliucinsk, it states mainly submarines in the class of Bora and Dolphin, bearer of ballistic rockets with nuclear focouas. Also, here they are based on versatile nuclear submarines designed for patrol missions in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, according to the Ukrainian portal.
The natural disaster caused a tsunami up to three to four meters high, which flooded factories and ports in the peninsula.
Kamceatka is of strategic importance to the Russian navy, as it houses not only submarines, but also anti -aircraft defense systems, radar stations and ammunition deposits.
In the peninsula are also located coastal rocket systems and electronic war systems, but it is not known whether the installations have been affected by the earthquake and most likely the Russian authorities will pass this silence, writes the Ukrainian portal.
