The bridge over the Tisa river between Romania and Ukraine enters into repairs. Road traffic will be restricted

The road traffic between Romania and Ukraine on the bridge that crosses the Tisa river, located outside the municipality of Sighetu Marmaiei, will be restricted for the execution of repair works, the Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police Sighetu Marmaiei said on Sunday.
“The road traffic is restricted for the execution of works on the rolling and sidewalk on the bridge infrastructure, a bridge that connects Romania to Ukraine. The National Company for the Administration of the Road Infrastructure, through the executing company, informed the Border Police Institution about the need to restrict the road traffic for the work, 07.07.2025, between 09.00-15.00, from Monday to Friday, for a period of 62 days, the road traffic through the Border Crossing Point Sighetu Marmatiei will be restricted ”, said the spokesman of ITPF Sighetu Marmatiei, Iulia Stan, according to Agerpres.
According to the quoted source, pedestrian traffic on the two pedestrian alleys will not be affected.
Pod with wooden structure, built 25 years ago
The bridge that crosses the Tisa river and connects with Solotvino, Ukraine, was built at the beginning of 2000. The bridge, having a wooden structure with a single direction of circulation and two pedestrian alleys, experienced an overload with the beginning of the War in Ukraine and the increase of road traffic.
The Maramureş County Council is working on the second bridge over the Tisa river, which will provide the connection with Ukraine under net conditions superior to the current bridge.
The road access from and to Ukraine can also be done through the Halmeu Border Crossing Point in Satu Mare county.
Temporarily, the connection between Maramureş and Ukraine was also provided on the railway with wide gauge, specially built in the early 1950s, through the crossing points Valea Vişeului and Câmpulung, railway traffic suspended by the Ukrainian authorities.
Also, CJ Maramureş also studied the possibility of opening a border crossing between Romania and Ukraine on the outskirts of Poienile de Sub Munte, in the Maramureş Mountains, at over 1,000 meters altitude, but the project was abandoned.
