How other European leaders reacted
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, condemned the attack.
“On this holy day of the Sunday of Flowers, a new horrible and lasted Russian attack took place at Sumî, making innocent civil victims again, unfortunately including children. I firmly condemn this unacceptable violence, which contradicts any real commitment for peace (…) We will continue to work to put an end to this barbarism.”
A reaction also had the British prime minister, who declared “dismayed” by events, saying that they are “a strong reminder of the continuous blood flow committed.”
“President Zelenski has shown his commitment to peace, President Putin must now agree with a complete and immediate cessation of fire, without conditions-as Ukraine did,” added Keir Starmer.
The German Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, condemned the “barbarian attack” and said that “such Russian attacks show what is happening with the alleged desire for peace of Russia.” He asked Moscow to “finally accept a cessation of comprehensive fire.”
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the “barbarian” attack represents a “dark reminder” that “Russia was and remains the aggressor,” notes the BBC.
A message also transmitted the special American emissary for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, who claimed that “the attack of Russian forces on civil targets in Sumî exceeds the limits of decency.”
