Early afternoon on Friday shots were fired towards tram line No. 52 in Vienna. “Holes were found, both in the door and in the vehicle window,” spokesman of the Vienna Police Philipp Haßlinger told the newspaper “Krone”. “At the scene of the incident, a rifle cartridge was finally found. Nobody was wounded,” Austrian media write.
What actions did the police take?
Investigators secured the tram, and also separated the area around him. Based on the examination of the damaged vehicle, they determined that the shots were fired from one of the surrounding houses. “Two apartments were searched during the operation. A rifle and cartridge scales were found in the second apartment. During the search from afar, loud bangs were also heard,” writes “Krone”.
What do we know about the attacker?
It turned out that a 36-year-old Pole stayed in the second apartment. He confessed to shelling the tram. The appropriate long weapon and scales were requisitioned from the man's apartment. Earlier he was listed by Austrian investigators for drug -related crimes. He is currently in detention of Vienna Criminal Police, and the prosecutor's office is investigating whether his intention was murder.
